National Award winning Bollywood editor, Waman Bhonsle passed away in Mumbai on Monday due to age related issues. At the age of 89, he breathed his last.
Waman Bhonsle received the National Award for Best Editing in 1978 for the Vinod Khanna and Vidya Sinha starrer film ‘Inkaar’, directed by Raj N. Sippy. Waman Bhonsle won the Filmfare Award for ‘Saudagar’ directed by Subhash Ghai, released in 1992.
Bhonsle was born in Goa. After completing his early education there, he moved to Mumbai in 1952. Here, under the supervision of editor D.N. Pai, he took up training for editing in Bombay Talkies and then worked as an assistant editor at Filmistan Studio for 12 years.
Bhonsle landed his first Hindi film assignment as an independent editor with Raj Khosla directorial Do Raaste (1969). He remained active during 1960s-1990s, working as an editor for several popular hits like Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Inkaar, Dostana, Ghulam, Do Raaste, Agneepath, Aandhi, Parichay, Mausam, Hero, Karz, Kalicharan, Saaheb, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Ghulam and others.
