The actor’s agent Vivek Sidhwani said, “Three-time national award winning actress, Surekha Sikri has passed away following a cardiac arrest earlier this morning at the age of 75. She had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke, She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The family asks for privacy at this time. Om Sai Ram,” he added.
Sikri had suffered a brain stroke in September last year and was discharged after a few days. The three-time National Award-winning actor is best known for her performances in “Tamas”, “Mammo”, “Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro”, “Zubeidaa”, “Badhaai Ho” and daily soap “Balika Vadhu”. Sikri was last seen in an anthology last year directed by Zoya Akhtar and Ghost Stories released on Netflix. She is survived by her son Rahul Sikri.
Born in Uttar Pradesh, Surekha spent her childhood in Almora and Nainital. This actress studied from Aligarh Muslim University. After this he joined the National School of Drama in Delhi. Surekha has also received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989. Surekha Sikri’s father was in the Air Force and her mother was a teacher. She was married to Hemant Rege with whom she has a son, Rahul Sikri. Rahul Sikri is based in Mumbai and is an artist. Actor Naseeruddin Shah is Surekha Sikri’s brother-in-law (Brother-in-Law) in the relationship. Surekha’s sister Manara Sikri was Naseeruddin’s first marriage.
Surekha Sikri played the role of Dadi Sa (Kalyani Devi Dharamvir Singh) in Balika Vadhu, in which she was well-liked. This serial was on air from 2008 to 2016. Apart from this, she did memorable roles of grandmother in many serials like Pardes Mein Hai Mera Dil, CID, Saat Phere, Banegi Apni Baat.
