The first movie of Priyadarshan as a director was in Malayalam 37 years ago. His first Hindi movie was Muskurahat with Revati, Jay Mehta, Amrish Puri and the year was 1992 means it is 30-year-old. He has directed a total of 90 movies in Malayalam, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
After 8 years of his last Hindi movie Rangrez in 2013, he has come back once again with the Hindi movie Hungama -2. It is the sequel of much famous Hungama of 2003. In fact, except for the same name it has nothing to do with the original Hungama.
Earlier Hungama with which Priydarshan has arrived in the industry was the remake of a Malayalam cinema Puchakuru Mukkuthi and now this Hungama – 2 is the remake of his Malayalam movie Minnaram of 1994. Both these Malayalam movies were superhit, but Hungama -2 is not worth quality at even 10 % as compared to the first Hungama.
Colonel Gobind Kapoor has two sons Aman (Raman Trikha) and Akash (Mizan Jafari). One day Vaani (Pranitha Subhash) comes to colonel Kapoor with a small girl Gehna and reveals a secret to shock all that Akash is his lover and Gehna is their daughter.
During the time Colonel Kapoor has already fixed the marriage of Akash with the daughter of his friend, industrialist Bajaj (Manoj Joshi). To conceal this matter, avoid the defame and protect the proposed marriage he allows Vaani to live in their home. Akash tells everything to Anjali Tiwari (Shilpa Shetty) whom he considers a sister. Anjali decides to help Akash in this matter. The Aged husband of Anjali is Radheshyam Tiwari (Paresh Rawal). When Anjali is helping Akash, Radheshyam develops a misunderstanding that Anjali is pregnant from Akash. This creates chaos and complications start to increase and at last, the truth comes to light.
There is nothing wrong with the story or screenplay but while presenting a remake of (Minnaram) of 1994 movie, Priyadarshan failed to make changes considering today’s audience. So, as compared to earlier Hungama this new one is very dull. The lengthy 2 hours 35 minutes duration added with dull music by Anu Malik makes it more difficult to watch.
Paresh Rawal and Ashutosh Rana are as usual very nice to their roles. Shilpa Shetty, Mizan Jafari (son of Javed Jafari), Pranitha Subhash, Manoj Joshi also have tried to give justice to their roles. But lack of innovative story, dull presentation, and aimless direction doesn’t allow the viewers to connect. Cinematography N. K. Ekambaram is very nice.
After the movie Apne of 2007, Shilpa Shetty has returned after 14 years. At present real Hungama of her husband, Raj Kundra about porn videos is at the boom in media. For the comeback of Shilpa, a new version of her song Chura Ke Dil Mera from the movie Main Khiladi Tu Anari is used by Anu Malik, it’s quite ok. However, Hungama -2 has failed to make Chori of our Dil!
