Ajeeb Daastaans Movie Review:
A special viewers category has been emerged now a days which is always interested to watch something strange and unusual. Moreover, such viewership is knowingly created by OTT online streaming platforms. There is no censor board for OTT and even though it comes in to existence it would take pretty long time to actually work and have effects. That’s the reason that everyday Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Hotstar, Alt Balaji, MX Player and all other OTT platforms bring flood of stories full of violence, sex representing a vagabond and debauched society that lacks any rules of morality and cultured family bonding. Taking the same thread, a movie with four different stories, ‘AjeebDaastaans’ is released on Netflix.
The four stories in AjeebDaastaans namely Majnu, Khilauna, Gili Puchchi and Ankahi are directed respectively by Shashank Khaitan, Raj Mehta, Neeraj Ghewan. If I describe all four stories, it would waste my words and your time. So, it is best to talk about them in brief.
Director of Badrinath kiDulhaniya and Humpty Sharma kiDulhaniya, Shashank Khaitan has directed the story ‘Majnu’ and it is the weakest among all four. Acting of Fatima Sana Shaikh and Jaideep Ahalawat is too poor. The dialogues and abusive language used here is worse than any C grade movie.
Director of Good News film (Akshay Kumar, Kareena Kapoor), Raj Mehta is the director of second story, ‘Khilauna’. NusaratBharucha and Abhishek Banerjee have acted very well and the end of story is really shocking and difficult to digest. This is most unusual and unique story among four.
The most effective is the third story, ‘Gili Puchchi’. With leading roles of Konkana Sen and Aditi Rao Haidari, the story is directed by Neeraj Ghewan. (He is known for 2015 film Massan of Vicky Kaushal & Richa Chaddha). While presenting a story of two lesbian friends, he has also focused on caste system in society and especially at work places. Nice story/ screenplay, best action by Konkana and Aditi and perfect direction by Neeraj have made the story Ajeeb/ strange still nearer to truth and effective.
Fourth story is short and sweet. Ankahi (unexplained) As the title shows this love story tells much without saying. Son of senior actor Boman Irani, Kayoze Irani has directed it. The direction of Kayoze clearly shows the attraction, love and affectionate closeness between the characters played by Shefali Shah and Manav Kaul. The end of the story is very effective.
Knowingly I am not giving any idea about any story as it will be more interesting and effective to watch them actually. The four stories have length of 2 hours and 22 minutes. Though the first two stories are not that much effective, but will make you watch completely with curiosity and speed. These stories presented by the production house of Karan Johar remind us the old superhit song
“..AjeebDaastaanhai yah, kaha shuru kaha khatam,
Yah manzilehaikaunsi, na wah samaz sake naham”………..
Watch these stories once and then sing this song, you will be convinced
