Director: Abhishek Kapoor.
Starring: Ayushmann Khurrana, Vaani Kapoor, Abhishek Bajaj
Story Line: Manu (Ayushman) is among the top ten gym trainer in Chandigarh. As he is very much in love with his body building, even though he is over 30 years old, Manu is not married yet. He is living with his father, grandfather and two sisters. Manu was introduced to Maanvi (Vaani Kapoor). Manavi, a native of Ambala, is a Zumba dance teacher. Maanvi, who is looking for a place in Chandigarh, starts her classes at Manu’s Gym. The love of the two matches. When Manu confesses his love to her and asks her to marry him, Maanvi tells Manu a bitter truth about herself which shocks Manu. The next story is how Manu recovers from this shock.
Remarks: Written by a trio of Supritik Sen, Tusshar Paranjape and Director Abhishek Kapoor , Supratik and Tushar have done the work of translating the story into a screenplay. Admittedly, there is freshness in the story, but if even a very short movie of 1 hour and 55 minutes, fails to keep you hooked, then something is wrong! Now this shortcoming is in both the screenwriting and directing departments. Writers are confused when it comes to defining the two main characters, the hero and the heroine, adequately and neatly. The fact that they have unconditional love for each other is not established till the very end. The result is that the audience does not get along with the love story of the two. The minus point is that the protagonist’s character is shown in a very confused state of mind. The audience usually does not like to see such a confused hero after knowing the shocking facts about the heroine. Even Abhishek Kapoor’s direction has not improved much. The social message from the story is important but if the story had been built according to it, the overall effect could have been greater.
Music: Despite the fact that its a love story, music is bit disappointing, which is the biggest minus point from a commercial point of view.
Performances: Ayushman’s hard work on his own bodybuilding is more visible than acting. Vaani Kapoor’s acting is strictly average.
Final Word: Even if ‘Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui’ is not a total waste, it could have been many times better. Average.
