Speaking to the media, Bhupinder’s wife Mithali said, “Bhupinder passed away on Monday and will be cremated tomorrow on Tuesday. He had intestinal disease.
Dr Deepak Namjoshi, director of Criticare Asia Hospital, said, “Bhupinderji was admitted to our hospital ten days ago. They were infected. We strongly suspected that he had intestinal disease and were investigating. At the same time he got Kovid-19. On Monday morning his condition worsened and we had to put him on ventilator. He suffered a heart attack and died at 7:45 pm.”
Bhupinder Singh is known for his popular ghazals like Dil Dhundhata Hai, Naam Gum Jayega, Ek Akela Is Shahr Mein, Beeti Na Bitai Raina, Huzoor Is Kadar Bhi Na Itraake Chalie, Kisi Nazar Ko Tera Intezar Aaj Bhi Hai, Badalon Se Kat Ke.
Born in Amritsar, Bhupinder started his career with All India Radio and was also associated with Delhi Doordarshan Kendra. In 1962, musician Madan Mohan heard him playing the guitar at a party and invited him to Mumbai.
Madan Mohan offered him the song “Hoke Mahbhar Mujhe” from the movie Haqiqat. Music composer Khayyam gave him the song “Rut Jawan Jawan” from the movie ‘Akhri Khat’. Bhupinder has also released several independent music albums.
