Beginning his career as a villain in Hindi cinema with 1962’s “Aarti”, Deo went on to deliver memorable roles alongside stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna. Khanna and Shatrughan Sinha and Hema Malini-Dharmendra in films such as “Anand”, “Aap Ki Kasam” and “Mere Apne” and “Dream Girl”.Ramesh Deo was seen in supporting roles in popular Hindi films like Khilona, Jeevan Mrityu, Rampur Ka Lakshman, Kora Kagaz among others.
Ramesh Narayan Singh Deo’s family is originally from Jodhpur in Rajasthan. After Shahu Maharaj of Kolhapur invited his grandfather to Kolhapur, the family settled in the same city. Ramesh Dev was educated in Kolhapur. While in college, Ramesh Dev was acquainted with dignitaries like Bhalji Pendharkar and Dinkar Patil.
He got a small role in the first Rajshree production film ‘Aarti’. He later got the role of co-star in the movie ‘Mohabbat Isko Kehte Hain’. He then got a chance to be a hero in ‘Love and Murder’. Ramesh Deo, meanwhile, set up his own theater company, Ajinkya Theaters, and produced some marathi plays.
He entered the film industry as a villain, but later became popular as a protagonist. Ramesh Deo also wanted to work in all the departments related to the film industry. He produced the film ‘Sarja’ on behalf of his own production company. ‘Sarja’ won a National award. Ramesh Deo also won awards in Iran, Iraq and China for his excellent direction in the film Senani Sane Guruji. He is the first Marathi director to get such an honor. He also produced films like ‘Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke’, ‘Goshta Lagna Nantarchi’ and ‘Jeta’.
Ramesh is survived by his actor-wife Seema and his sons – Abhinay and Ajinkya. Abhinay has directed Hindi films like Delhi Belly, Blackmail. Ajinkya, on the other hand, is a well-known actor in Hindi and Marathi cinema.
