Shiv Subramaniam is also credited with writing the screenplay for Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s ‘Parinda’ and Sudhir Mishra’s ‘Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi’. Subramaniam started his film career with the 1989 film Parinda, in which he also appeared in a supporting role. He was also credited with writing the screenplays for films like 1942: A Love Story, Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi, Arjun Pandit, Chameli, Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi and Tin Patti.
Shiv Subramaniam co wrote Is Raat ki Subah Nahin ,Chameli n Hazaaron with me but much before that in 1984,when I was a writer n on Saeed Mirza’s Mohan Joshi Haazir Ho,Naseer ( NaseeruddinShah) brought this young Kid 2 d set n told me to teach him the ropes .The kid learnt fast .

Apart from screenwriting, Subramaniam was also known for his dazzling performances in films and TV shows. In the TV show Mukti Bandhan, he played the role of leading industrial tycoon IM Virani. He also garnered critical acclaim for his performances in Stanley Ka Dabba, Tu Hai Mera Sunday, Finger, Nail Polish and 2 States, where he played the role of Alia Bhatt’s father.

Shiv Subramaniam’s body will be cremated on Monday morning at Mokshadham Hindu Cemetery, Andheri, Mumbai. Many Bollywood celebrities, including filmmaker Hansal Mehta, actor Gulshan Devayya, casting director Mukesh Chhabra and producer Ashok Pandit, have mourned the death of Shiv Subramaniam.
